A large cross-section of family members, political figures, community leaders and sympathisers gathered in Ekpoma for the final rites of Deaconess Josephine Okonofua, mother of Hon. Imoisili Inegbedion.
The burial ceremony, held at the Ambrose Alli Field along the Ekpoma–Benin Expressway in Ekpoma, drew dignitaries from across Esan land and beyond, underscoring the enduring influence and legacy of the late matriarch.
Among those in attendance was the Edo State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe, who joined the Inegbedion family to honour the memory of the departed and express heartfelt condolences. His presence, alongside other prominent leaders, reflected the high regard in which the deceased was held within both political and community circles.
Also present at the solemn occasion were the Acting Chairman of Esan West Local Government Council, Hon. Albert Blessing Ebhodaghe, and former Chairman of Esan West Local Government, Hon. Engr. Monday Abulu, in addition to party stalwarts, associates and stakeholders from various sectors.
Speakers at the ceremony described Deaconess Okonofua as a woman of deep faith, humility and uncommon generosity. Tributes highlighted her steadfast commitment to Christian service, her nurturing spirit and her enduring devotion to family and community. Many noted that her life exemplified grace, resilience and selfless dedication to humanity.
In his brief remarks to the bereaved family, Sir (Dr.) Eseigbe offered prayers for strength and divine comfort, encouraging Hon. Imoisili Inegbedion and relatives to draw solace from the impactful and fulfilled life their mother lived.
The event was marked by prayers, hymns and touching tributes that celebrated a legacy built on love, service and moral uprightness. Though the atmosphere was heavy with grief, it was equally defined by gratitude for the years of guidance and care she devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Deaconess Josephine Okonofua is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family members, all of whom remain committed to preserving her memory and values.
