The governor commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for leveraging sports as a vehicle for youth development, peacebuilding, and regional cooperation. He noted that the initiative aligns with his administration’s SHINE Agenda, which prioritizes sustainable youth engagement, skills development, and inclusive growth.

According to him, the Games provide a constructive platform for young people to channel their energy and talent positively, while fostering bonds across states in the Niger Delta.

Edo State, he added, is fully prepared to deliver a safe, hospitable, and world-class experience for athletes, officials, and visitors throughout the duration of the event. Security agencies, sports authorities, and local organizing committees have worked collaboratively to ensure seamless coordination and high operational standards.

Governor Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote character development, discipline, and excellence among young people.

“Together, we will inspire dreams, build character, and strengthen unity across the Niger Delta,” he said.

The 2026 Niger Delta Games are expected to draw athletes and officials from across the oil-rich region, further reinforcing sport as a unifying force and a catalyst for social and economic development.
