The Akoko-Edo Unity Movement (AUM), a socio-political advocacy group, has formally called on renowned humanitarian, grassroots mobiliser, and community development advocate, Chief Dr. Thomas Attah, to answer what it described as a growing public demand for higher political representation at the national level.

In a communiqué issued on Tuesday, January 21, in Lagos, the movement declared its unanimous support for Chief Dr. Attah to contest any National Assembly position of his choice, pledging to mobilise, support, and sponsor his political ambition in the interest of the people.

According to the group, Edo North Senatorial District, and Akoko-Edo in particular, deserve a more responsive, people-oriented, and development-driven representation capable of influencing sound policies and attracting meaningful dividends of democracy to the region.

The communiqué described Chief Dr. Attah as a humanitarian phenomenon, a grassroots bridge-builder, and a detribalised national figure whose life of service, philanthropy, and community engagement has earned him widespread respect across ethnic, religious, and political divides.

“Leadership at the national level requires credibility, compassion, capacity, and character,” the statement noted. “Chief Dr. Thomas Attah embodies these qualities and has consistently demonstrated a rare commitment to the welfare of ordinary citizens.”

The movement further emphasised that elective offices are a collective trust, not the exclusive preserve or personal estate of any individual or political bloc, stressing the need for equity, inclusiveness, and democratic competition in political representation.

AUM also called on the people of Akoko-Edo and Edo North to remain vigilant, politically conscious, and actively engaged in the democratic process to ensure that credible leaders with proven records of service emerge to represent their interests.

The statement concluded by urging Chief Dr. Attah to heed the call, describing the moment as a critical opportunity for purposeful leadership and renewed hope for effective representation at the national stage.
