The Director-General of the Edo State Health Insurance Commission (EDOHIC), Dr. (Mrs.) Augusta Ikpea-Enaholo, has extended warm birthday felicitations to the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, describing him as a visionary and people-centred leader whose administration is steadily repositioning the State for sustainable development.

In her birthday message, Dr. Ikpea-Enaholo congratulated Governor Okpebholo on the occasion of his birthday and commended his courage, commitment and determination to translate his administration’s vision into tangible improvements in the lives of Edo residents.

She particularly applauded the Governor for placing healthcare at the centre of his SHINE Agenda, noting that his administration has demonstrated that healthcare is not merely a policy objective but a fundamental pillar of human development.

According to her, the administration’s interventions in the health sector, including investments in primary healthcare infrastructure, improved access to medical services, support for vulnerable residents through health insurance, provision of diagnostic equipment and the strengthening of healthcare institutions, reflect a deliberate commitment to building a more accessible, affordable and resilient healthcare system.

Governor Okpebholo’s administration has also recorded significant interventions in primary and secondary healthcare, including the reopening of previously non-functional hospitals, recruitment of healthcare personnel and continued investment in health infrastructure. The administration has equally pursued initiatives aimed at expanding access to healthcare in underserved communities and advancing the State’s journey towards Universal Health Coverage.

Dr. Ikpea-Enaholo noted that the Governor’s support for health insurance reform has created an enabling environment for EDOHIC to deepen its mandate of protecting residents from the financial hardship associated with accessing healthcare.

She described the strengthening of health insurance coverage, digitalisation of health insurance processes and greater attention to vulnerable populations as important components of the administration’s broader healthcare agenda.

The EDOHIC Director-General further praised Governor Okpebholo for providing institutional backing for reforms designed to make healthcare more responsive to the needs of Edo people, stressing that the ultimate value of any healthcare system is measured by its ability to save lives, protect families from catastrophic health expenditure and ensure that quality care is available regardless of social or economic status.

Her commendation comes against the backdrop of the Governor’s sustained emphasis on primary healthcare and Universal Health Coverage. In July 2026, the State Government reaffirmed its commitment to a people-centred healthcare system through the Edo SHINE Primary Health Care Summit, with a focus on strengthening primary healthcare systems and improving health outcomes across the State.

Beyond healthcare, Dr. Ikpea-Enaholo commended the Governor for what she described as broad-based developmental strides across Edo State, particularly in infrastructure, security, education, agriculture and economic development.

She said the ongoing transformation across different sectors demonstrates an administration determined to move Edo forward through purposeful governance, strategic investment and policies designed to improve the quality of life of its people.

While celebrating Governor Okpebholo’s birthday, Dr. Ikpea-Enaholo expressed confidence that the Governor’s leadership will continue to yield greater dividends for Edo residents, particularly as ongoing reforms mature and new initiatives are introduced.

She prayed for God’s continued wisdom, strength, good health and protection for the Governor, while wishing him many more years of impactful service to Edo State and humanity.

“On behalf of the management and entire staff of the Edo State Health Insurance Commission, I warmly celebrate His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on his birthday. Your commitment to transforming Edo State and improving the welfare of our people is worthy of commendation. May God continue to grant you wisdom, strength and good health as you lead our dear State towards greater prosperity,” Dr. Ikpea-Enaholo said.

As Governor Okpebholo marks another year, the message from the EDOHIC leadership is one of appreciation for an administration whose healthcare agenda is increasingly focused on access, affordability, institutional strengthening and the broader goal of ensuring that no Edo resident is left behind in the pursuit of quality healthcare.
