EDO STATE – Saturday, August 1, 2026 – The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Edo State Chapter, today formally inaugurated distinguished consultant paediatrician, neonatologist and healthcare administrator, Dr. Andrew Oseghale Eigbedion, as its Chairman, ushering in a new era of visionary leadership for the association.

The inauguration, held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, marks the beginning of a tenure widely expected to strengthen professional unity, deepen advocacy for improved healthcare delivery, advance the welfare of medical practitioners, and reinforce the association’s commitment to quality healthcare services across Edo State.

Dr. Eigbedion assumes office with an impressive record of professional excellence, visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to service. Throughout his career, he has earned a reputation as a compassionate physician, accomplished academic, innovative healthcare administrator and mentor whose influence has shaped the careers of many young medical professionals.

Currently serving as the Head of the Department of Paediatrics at Ambrose Alli University/Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, he has consistently demonstrated exceptional administrative competence by promoting clinical excellence, fostering teamwork and strengthening medical education within one of Edo State’s leading tertiary health institutions.

As the Medical Director of Eseohe Medical Centre, Ekpoma, Dr. Eigbedion has successfully combined private medical practice with a strong commitment to accessible, patient-centred healthcare. His leadership has been defined by professionalism, integrity, accountability and an unwavering pursuit of excellence, earning him widespread admiration among colleagues and the broader healthcare community.

His passion for developing the next generation of medical professionals is equally remarkable. As a clinical lecturer and Staff Adviser to the Ambrose Alli University Medical Students Association (AAUMSA), he has mentored numerous medical students, inspiring excellence, ethical practice and responsible leadership.

Dr. Eigbedion also distinguished himself as Edo Central Zonal Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP), where he championed initiatives that strengthened collaboration among practitioners and promoted higher professional standards within the healthcare sector.

His outstanding contributions have attracted notable recognition. In 2025, he received the prestigious Distinguished Medical Practitioner (DMP) Award from the ANPMP, becoming the youngest recipient of the honour and the first private medical practitioner from Edo Central Senatorial District to earn the award. Earlier, in 2023, he was inducted into the Nigeria Medical Association Edo State Hall of Fame in recognition of his exceptional contributions to medicine and healthcare development.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Eigbedion has remained deeply committed to youth development through mentorship initiatives and the annual Dr. Andrew Eigbedion Sports Festival, reflecting his enduring belief in nurturing excellence both within and outside the medical profession.
