As Nigeria marks the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, former member of the House of Representatives who represented Esan Central, Esan West and Igueben Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Patrick Ikhariale, PhD, has extended warm felicitations to the people of Edo Central Senatorial District, Edo State, and Nigerians across the country.
In a heartfelt Democracy Day message, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain paid glowing tribute to the heroes and heroines whose sacrifices laid the foundation for Nigeria’s democratic journey, as well as those who have continued to nurture and sustain democratic governance over the years.
Rt. Hon. Ikhariale described Democracy Day as a solemn reminder of the resilience, courage, and collective aspirations of Nigerians for a nation founded on justice, freedom, and equal opportunity. He noted that the nation’s democratic gains were achieved through immense sacrifices and should be protected through unity, patriotism, and active citizen participation.
He called on Nigerians to deepen the bonds of peace, tolerance, and national cohesion, stressing that the country’s strength lies in its diversity and shared commitment to a better future.
The former lawmaker also urged citizens to unite in confronting insecurity and other criminal activities threatening national development. According to him, meaningful progress can only be achieved when government and citizens work together to safeguard lives, property, and the nation’s collective prosperity.
Rt. Hon. Ikhariale commended Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his unwavering commitment to tackling insecurity and other forms of crime in the state, while also advancing developmental projects aimed at improving the lives of the people.
He praised the governor’s leadership and determination in driving positive change across Edo State, expressing confidence that the administration’s efforts would continue to yield lasting benefits for residents.
While urging Edo people to remain steadfast in their support for the Okpebholo-led administration, Ikhariale also called for continuous prayers for the governor and all leaders entrusted with the responsibility of steering the affairs of the state and the nation.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us honour the sacrifices of those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today by embracing peace, unity, and a shared commitment to nation-building. Together, we can build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria for future generations,” he said.
He wished Nigerians a peaceful and memorable Democracy Day celebration and expressed optimism that the nation would continue to make steady progress towards greater peace, security, and development.
