The Ebakota Movement has intensified efforts toward political mobilization in Edo State, unveiling an ambitious plan aimed at increasing voter participation ahead of the 2027 general elections through a statewide registration drive.

Speaking during a meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Esan Central who paid him a birthday visit in Irrua on Friday, the President of Ebakota Movement Worldwide, ESV Amb. Tony Okonigene, disclosed that the movement has already activated structures across Edo State to support the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to Amb. Okonigene, the movement is targeting no fewer than 3.5 million registered voters in Edo State before the 2027 elections, stressing that the state possesses the demographic strength and political consciousness required to attain the figure.

He explained that the initiative is designed to encourage wider civic participation, particularly among eligible citizens who are yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), while also motivating previously disengaged residents to become active participants in the democratic process.

“We are prepared to mobilize massively across Edo State. Our target is to ensure that at least 3.5 million eligible voters are registered ahead of the 2027 general elections. Edo State has the capacity, the population, and the political awareness to achieve this milestone,” he stated.

Amb. Okonigene further revealed that the movement is awaiting the commencement of the final phase of the CVR exercise scheduled to begin on Monday, May 11, 2026, noting that the exercise presents a strategic opportunity for citizens to strengthen democratic participation through lawful electoral engagement.

He emphasized that the voter registration campaign would cut across communities, local government areas, and political blocs, with volunteers and coordinators expected to drive sensitization campaigns aimed at increasing awareness about the importance of voter registration.

The Ebakota Movement President also used the occasion to commend the administration of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, describing the governor’s leadership style as practical, development-driven, and impactful.

He noted that ongoing infrastructural and developmental projects across different parts of the state have continued to resonate positively with residents, adding that such governance outcomes would significantly boost the electoral fortunes of the APC in future elections.

According to him, visible governance and grassroots engagement remain central to sustaining public confidence and strengthening democratic institutions within the state.

The meeting in Irrua attracted APC leaders and stakeholders from Esan Central, with discussions largely centered on political participation, grassroots mobilization, and preparations ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
