Benin City, Edo State — The race for the Edo South Senatorial seat gathered intense momentum as Ogbeide Omoregie Ihama made a commanding and triumphant entry into the All Progressives Congress (APC) Oredo Local Government Secretariat along Wire Road, drawing a massive reception from party faithfuls, leaders, and grassroots mobilizers.
The atmosphere was electric and charged with anticipation as chants, cheers, and visible excitement heralded Ihama’s arrival, signaling what many within the party described as a defining moment in the unfolding senatorial contest.
Addressing the energized crowd, the former House of Representatives member expressed deep appreciation to elders, party leaders, and loyal supporters for their patience and unwavering commitment. He acknowledged the overwhelming reception accorded to him and his team, emphasizing that such goodwill would not be taken for granted.
Recounting his legislative trajectory, Ihama reminded the gathering of his impactful eight-year tenure in the House of Representatives, highlighting his unprecedented re-election across all twelve wards—an achievement he described as a testament to performance, trust, and grassroots connection.
“I have come home first,” he declared firmly, underscoring the principle that charity begins at home. He appealed for prayers, unity, and full support from his Oredo base as he formally flagged off consultations for his senatorial ambition.
In a speech laced with confidence and political clarity, Ihama stressed that the Senate is “serious business,” rejecting notions of it being a platform for political settlement or experimentation. He argued that the position demands experience, capacity, sagacity, and proven ability to deliver results—qualities he asserted distinguish him in the race.
While extending respect to other aspirants contesting the Edo South ticket, Ihama made a bold case for his candidacy, declaring himself the most experienced contender by virtue of his legislative record. He emphasized that his ambition transcends Oredo, pledging to represent all seven local government areas in Edo South with fairness, strength, and strategic influence.
He further reminded supporters of his political resilience, noting that he secured electoral victories even while in opposition against a ruling party—positioning himself as a “serial winner” deserving of the party’s ticket.
Projecting a forward-looking vision, Ihama described his candidacy as one aligned with youth inclusion and generational advancement, pledging strong representation for young people while maintaining inclusive governance for all demographics.
He also used the opportunity to dismiss circulating claims about his party affiliation, firmly stating his longstanding membership and contributions to the APC’s growth and current administration.
As the event drew to a close, party elders offered fervent prayers for Ihama’s success, safety, and political journey, reinforcing a strong show of internal support at the grassroots level.
In his remarks, the Oredo LGA Chairman, Osemudiamen Osawenkhoe, commended Ihama for what he described as a compelling, mature, and unifying address. He particularly praised the aspirant’s acknowledgment of fellow contenders and his respectful tone, describing it as a mark of political depth and leadership.
The high-powered gathering featured prominent figures including Chief George Ekhator Eduwiofo Obasogie, General Charles E. Airhiavbere (Rtd.), Reverend Michael Egharevba, Rt. Hon. Razak Bello Osagie, and Mr. Kelly Okungbowa, alongside palace chiefs, top government officials, party stalwarts, and enthusiastic supporters.
With a thunderous kickoff in Oredo, Ihama’s senatorial bid has unmistakably shifted into high gear—setting the stage for what promises to be a fiercely contested and politically defining battle for Edo South.
