The Nipost Compound in Igbinaduwa, Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, was transformed into a vibrant arena of political mobilization and grassroots enthusiasm as Dr. Oguogho Taiye Garrick formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency.
The declaration event attracted a broad spectrum of party stakeholders, traditional authorities, and grassroots leaders, underscoring the growing momentum behind Garrick’s candidacy. Among the notable personalities in attendance were Hon. Stellar Ogidida, Efosa Mack Anthony, Clement Ogbebor, and the revered traditional ruler, HRH Osawaru Eresoyen, the Ogie of Ire-Owina Efemwonkiekie. Also present were ward chairmen and their structures from Wards 1 through 10, demonstrating a unified show of support across the constituency.
In his opening remarks, the Ward 2 Chairman, Mr. Oasaro Osagiduwa, welcomed party faithful and residents, describing the gathering as a defining moment for Egor’s political future. He expressed appreciation for the massive turnout and emphasized the growing anticipation among the people for equitable political representation. According to him, the aspiration of Dr. Garrick resonates strongly with the collective desire of Egor constituents to occupy the federal legislative seat.
Delivering his keynote address, Dr. Garrick was met with resounding cheers as he acknowledged the resilience and loyalty of supporters who gathered under challenging weather conditions. In a speech marked by clarity of purpose and political conviction, he declared that “it is Egor O’clock,” signaling what he described as a long-overdue opportunity for the area to take its rightful place in national representation.
Drawing on his extensive public service background, Garrick highlighted his experience as a former Special Assistant to the President on Policy and Project Planning between 2003 and 2013. He noted that this decade of engagement at the highest levels of governance equipped him with critical insights into policy formulation and project execution, positioning him to deliver effectively if elected.
Outlining his legislative priorities, the aspirant pledged to complement the developmental strides of the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, particularly under the administration’s SHINE agenda. He emphasized plans to drive renewable energy initiatives aimed at powering small-scale businesses and creating sustainable opportunities for youths within the constituency.
Garrick further assured constituents of inclusive representation, promising targeted empowerment programmes for youths, women, elders, and students. He reiterated his commitment to collaborative governance, stressing the importance of synergy between federal and state actors in accelerating development.
He also paid glowing tribute to Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, commending what he described as transformative infrastructural progress across Edo State. According to him, supporting the governor’s vision at the federal level remains central to his legislative ambition.
The endorsement of Garrick’s candidacy gained further traction when Engr. Victor Obanor publicly affirmed him as a credible and dependable choice, declaring that Ward 2 had unequivocally thrown its weight behind the aspirant. The endorsement was met with chants of “Egor O’clock,” echoing across the venue.
Adding a cultural and spiritual dimension to the event, the Ogie of Ire-Owina led prayers for the success of the aspirant, invoking traditional blessings for wisdom, strength, and victory. The closing remarks by Hon. Moses of Ward 1 reinforced the call for unity, urging constituents to rally behind Garrick in pursuit of collective progress.
In his interaction with journalists after the event, Dr. Garrick reaffirmed his resolve to provide strategic legislative support to the state government. He described Edo as undergoing a significant transformation, noting that ongoing infrastructural projects have effectively turned the state into a “construction hub,” thereby necessitating experienced representation at the national level to sustain the momentum.
The declaration concluded on a celebratory note, with men, women, and youths adorned in party colours engaging in music, dance, and traditional displays—symbolizing a campaign launch marked by optimism, solidarity, and renewed political energy within Egor and Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency.
