The Edo State Chapter of the Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the approval and launch of the Nigeria National Laureate Annual Prize Programme, describing it as a visionary step toward repositioning Nigeria as a global hub for academic excellence, innovation, and intellectual advancement.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Edo State Chapter emphasized that the initiative is a clear reflection of the President’s Renewed Hope agenda—an overarching governance philosophy committed to unlocking Nigeria’s vast human capital and driving sustainable national development through education and innovation.
The group noted that the introduction of substantial financial rewards ranging from ₦5 million to ₦20 million for outstanding undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral research represents a transformative shift in how academic excellence is valued in Nigeria. According to the chapter, this move will not only motivate students and researchers but also stimulate a culture of innovation capable of addressing critical national challenges.
Commending the Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, for driving the initiative, the Edo Renewed Hope Chapter described the programme as “a strategic intervention that aligns with global best practices where research and development serve as key drivers of economic growth and competitiveness.”
The statement further highlighted that the policy direction of the Tinubu administration is gradually redefining national priorities by placing intellectual productivity at the center of governance outcomes. It stressed that by institutionalizing the National Laureate Prize, the Federal Government is sending a strong signal that scholarly excellence and innovation are critical pillars for building a prosperous and self-reliant Nigeria.
The Edo Chapter also underscored the importance of ensuring that students and institutions across Edo State fully leverage the opportunities presented by the programme. It called on tertiary institutions within the state to actively participate in the submission process and position their best academic works for national recognition.
Describing the initiative as “a bold and forward-looking policy,” the group reaffirmed its unwavering support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria agenda, noting that such reforms are essential to securing a future driven by knowledge, creativity, and excellence.
The Edo State Chapter concluded by urging continued collaboration between government, academia, and the private sector to sustain the momentum of reforms, ensuring that Nigeria’s brightest minds are empowered to contribute meaningfully to national development and global competitiveness.
