The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the state and Edo central senatorial level, have been asked to zone the Edo Central Senatorial District ticket of the party for the 2025 by-election in the senatorial district to Igueben local government area.
In a statement on Monday, which was issued in Benin City, the Edo State capital, by Apostle Jerry Oshodin, National Chairman, and Prince Kennedy Obue, National Planning Committee Chairman, the group said that it is consensus and patriotic for the PDP to allow the Igueben local government the opportunity to produce the next senator of the senatorial district.
The forum said that Edo Central Senatorial District currently needs a senator that can create wealth by engaging jobless youths and who can care for the weak and indigent ones in the society.
The statement read “We, Edo Integrity Forum with strong belief in Equity, Fairness and Justice, have met and deliberated extensively on the ongoing political debates, with regard to the 2025 Edo central senatorial district by-election.
“As you are all aware, the issue of the forthcoming senatorial by-election has remained a major discussion in all the media spaces within the state and media platforms, as to which zone the next senator under PDP should come from.
“As those who stand for Equity Fairness and Justice, we wish to state the following:
“It is a consensus of patriotic Esan people that the Igueben people should be given a sense of belonging this time and avoid any political action that would make them feel as if they are not part and parcel of the Esan Nation.
“We call for support for a senator of Igueben extraction which we hereby endorse.
The forum also call on the leadership of PDP to thread with caution of few people trying to pick a candidate and force him on the people remembering them of the 2023 general elections out outcome in the senatorial district.
