You Can Run But You Can’t Hide: An Open Letter to Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Rev Olu Martins

Dear Senator Monday Okpebholo, I hope this letter meets you well and I hope you won’t need anyone to read this letter to you. Not that I am saying that you can’t read but because I have seen you call maiden meeting, medium meeting on national television, I nor come know if you sabi read again.

Anyways let’s get to the bottom line of this letter. Dear Senator Monday Okpebholo we observed that you haven’t attended any live interviews from any of the media stations. I hope it’s not because you are media shy or that you are bereft of ideas because while being media shy can be helped being ideologically bankrupt is dangerous for the future of our dear State because wicked and hungry politicians who are already homeless and jobless will just take advantage of you to steal the State dry like they did with president Buhari.

I know your handlers may go with the lazy and easy explanation that you are Camara shy but are you also radio shy? If person nor fit face camera him nor go fit face microphone for radio where camera nor dey? Shuo see me see solution. Nor be say na one chance APC wan carry us enter so as dem take carry us enter president mumu abi na president Bubu that time?

Senator Monday Okpebholo Sir, are you also conversation shy because we haven’t seen you talk for more than two minutes on any subject matter? Please don’t tell me that you are a two minute man because that may be dangerous for productivity all together. We are asking because we have seen you attempt to address issues a few times on a zoom meeting with all of such attempts ending n disasters. On one occasion, you couldn’t tell what the actual discussion taking place was as you left the zoom unceremoniously. On another occasion you told us one can actually use fifteen minutes to walk from Irrua where you are from to Akoko-edo. Senator Monday sir, how far, na so the matter be?

Even when you are around your APC guys who must applaud you to encourage you even if you call Adam the woman and Eve the man, you still don’t make a lot of sense. In the land of education in far away obodo oyinbo you still couldn’t educate us as to the difference between a zoo and a museum and when came back to Nigeria you made it worse when you told us that the Chairman of a Bank is the owner of the Bank say if na you get bank any other tribe outside Esan can go to hell as far as employment is concerned. Senator Monday Okpebholo dia is God oh.

Dear Senator Monday Okpebholo I am not just worried that you can’t speak good English or make sense at all because nor be only English dem take dey yarn, I am worried that e be like say you nor see well too. Senator abeg wetin happen for Boundary Road the other day wey you say jeep nor fit pass water but small Audi dey pass? You nor see say na Audi abi you nor chop come out that day?

Senator Monday Okpebholo I had to ask for the videos of your campaign as you tried to convince people to vote for you as a senator in our Edo central Senatorial district and I couldn’t lay my hands on any video where you said anything reasonable. It seems the Edo central people were too angry with the so-called third term agenda they forgot to interrogate your mental propriety. Abi na juju you use?

Dear Senator Monday Okpebholo you have run away from debates, you have run away from television and radio interviews.
The last time you ran away from an engagement with the Owan intelligentsia for no reason other than you don’t have what to tell them. Senator please remember that no one forced you into this race because you are making it look like so. You could have just quietly enjoyed your one term Senatorial position and left quietly other this needless embarrassment you are giving to us Esan people.

Dear Senator, we the people of the Edo Central senatorial district are becoming increasingly embarrassed by your evasive mannerism on issues that have to do with intelligence. Esan folks are very smart people and now you are creating the impression say we nor know ourselves again. Check out Chief Tony Enahoro, Check out Chris Oyakhilome, check out Chief Lee Ikpea and even check out Chief Tony Anenih that you call your mentor. All of them get sense die.

Dear Senator Monday Okpebholo where you come from. Are you sure that you are really an Esan man because you are by far the dullest to have occupied public office in that senatorial district. We were actually beginning to think about recalling you for bad parliamentary representation before APC even made matters worse for us by fielding you the worst gubernatorial aspirant as the flag bearer. APC wetin we do una?

Dear Senator Monday Okpebholo remember as they say, “you can run but you can’t hide”. For your information NUJ Edo State Chapter has scheduled a debate coming up soon, are you gonna run from that too? Channels TV also has a debate that will be televised life to the world, are you going to run from that too? Bros debate go many in the coming days, are gonna ask your fellow Senator Adams Oshiomole to represent you in all of them as him don become your Chief Spokesperson?

We have observed that even your media surrogates have systemically begun to avoid television appearances themselves as people are tired of their attempt to cover for you. Na you people wan see and hear from and they are now beginning to ask for you to speak for yourself. Remember you can lie to some people all the time,. you can even lie to everyone sometimes but you would never be able to lie to everyone all the time.

Your day of reckoning is by the corner dear Senator Monday Okpebholo where you won’t be able to hide again. Fortunately for you, we hear that you have just newly enrolled in an adult education class. Maybe if you got teachers from Harvard University they may be able to do some magic before those big debates come otherwise yawa go gas for you wella.
