In a momentous event heralding a new era of industrialization, the Edo State government through the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Mining and Energy, Hon. Ojiefoh Enaholo, graced the groundbreaking ceremony of 20 billion naira 200,000MT coated calcium carbonate plant in Lapese, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

The ceremony, held in collaboration with the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO) and chaired by Hon. Tajudeen Alade Suleiman, chairman of Akoko Edo Local Government Area, marked a significant step forward in the economic development landscape of the region.

While addressing the people of Lapense at the ceremony on Thursday 8 of February 2024, the Honourable Commissioner noted: “One of the strategies to bring development is through industrialization. “Our plan is to bring three multinational companies to Akoko Edo in no distant time. Two out of these three are already here.

“During the last week of January, the state government set up an international mineral processing and analysis center at Danbala in this local government. It will be completed in the next 90-days

“We want to ensure every company coming here must employ youths. The way we have attracted BUA and Dangote to Okpella is the same way we want to attract three multinational companies to Akoko Edo. I urge you to own this, provide security and peace for these companies”

Foremost among the manifold benefits of the investment is the creation of 500 job opportunities, offering a lifeline to the local workforce and catalyzing socio-economic prosperity within the region. Beyond its immediate employment impact, the plant is poised to invigorate ancillary sectors, stimulate entrepreneurship, and foster a culture of innovation and skill development.

This transformative venture is intricately woven into the fabric of Edo State’s industrialization agenda, exemplifying the government’s steadfast commitment to fostering a friendly business environment and propelling sustainable economic growth. Under the visionary leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki, the state’s industrial landscape continues to evolve, with Lapese emerging as a nucleus of innovation and enterprise.

Moreover, the groundbreaking ceremony underscores the collaborative spirit between government entities, private enterprises, and local communities in driving inclusive development initiatives. The seamless synergy between the Ministry of Mining and Energy, ESIPO, and the Lapese local government administration sets a precedent for effective public-private partnerships poised to unlock the region’s vast economic potential.

As the foundation is laid for this monumental project, anticipation swells for the myriad opportunities and benefits it promises to unleash. From job creation to infrastructure enhancement, environmental stewardship to socio-economic empowerment, the 200,000MT coated calcium carbonate plant stands as a beacon of progress, heralding a future brimming with prosperity for Lapese, Akoko Edo LGA, and Edo State at large.

The Commissioner commended Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki for his developmental strides over the years, saying the impacts are readily accessible to all in the state.
