Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan, broke the African women’s indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on Sunday, Feb. 4.

The Nigerian sprinter clocked 7.75 seconds, improving her own mark of 7.77 seconds that she set in Kazakhstan in January.

However, despite setting the new African record, the 7.75 effort was not enough for first position in Boston, as Amusan came second behind America’s Tia Jones, who finished first in 7.72 seconds.

Closely following Amusan in third position was Bahama’s Devynne Chalton, who finished in 7.76 seconds.

Amusan had on January 27, in her opening race of the new athletic season, beaten the African record set by her compatriot Gloria Alozie.

Another Nigerian athlete, Favour Ofili, also impressed in the women’s 300 meters, where she finished second with 35.99 seconds.

Ofili was behind Gabby Thomas from the US, who ran a world-leading time of 35.75 seconds to win the race.

Lynna Irby-Jackson from the US was third with 36.05 seconds.

Ofili holds the African indoor record in the women’s 200 meters, which she established in March 2023.
