The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) on Wednesday said elections will hold across the 4,519 polling units in the 192 wards in the state on September 2nd.
Chairman, Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), Justice James Oyomire (rtd) disclosed this to newsmen during a media briefing in Benin City, Edo state.
According to the electoral body, the election is to elect people into the eighteen (18) Chairmanship and the Vice Chairman seats in the eighteen (18) Local Council Areas and into the 192 Councillorship seats for the 192 Wards in Edo State.
Oyomire said to ensure that there is adequate security before, during and after the election, the Commission has engaged all the relevant security agencies in the State.
“We are happy to report that all the security architecture in Edo State have been activated and mobilized to ensure the safety of citizens, election personnel and materials.
He added that adequate training has also been given to all election officers and personnel in readiness for the election .
“Generally speaking, the situation in Edo State is calm as far as our preparations are concerned. Voters’ enthusiasm is high and so too is our determination to conduct credible elections. “Oyomire said.
