Sergius Ogun Extols Esan Women for Honouring Him with Award Of Excellence

….. Urges Esan Women to Assess Other House Of Reps Members

The Member representing Esan North/South East Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Sergius Ogun has extolled Esan Women groups (EWG) for honouring him with an award of excellence.

He also urged the women to access the scorecards and the achievements of other honourable members representing them in their various constituencies.

Hon. Sergius Ogun, represented at the event by Prince Henry Okpamen gave the commendations in Benin City, when he received an award of excellence from Esan Women groups from the five local government areas in Esanland.

He said one of the ways they can keep their honourable house of representative members on their toes is when they know that people are watching, scoring and marking their scorecards step by step, and beat by beat in whatever they are doing.

“I want to on behalf of Rt.Hon. Barrister Sergius Ogun appreciate the Esan Women groups who present this award of excellence to our House of Representatives member, who represented us in the lower chamber. I must say that I am indeed happy to be part of this wonderful event today.

“One of the ways we can keep our honourable house of representative members on their toes is when they know that people are watching, scoring and marking them step by step and beat by beat in whatever they are doing. When they know that then their representation will be more worthwhile and valuable.

“I want to say that your groups are people I have known and seen in the trench of his kind I have know for proper monitoring of activities. Fortunately for me, I am one of those who came from Hon. Sergius Ogun constituency, Esan North-East one of the two local government he is representing.

“And most of the items you listed here as most of the achievements of Honourable Sergius Ogun are fully on ground. I was his key follower of his activities in the house of Representatives concerning his performances. I want to say again thank you, and pray that God gives you and your team the energy and vitality to carry on in this manner. I want to also challenge you madam when you said your women here cut across the Esan five local government areas,” the representative of Hon. Ogun stated.

He further said: “I also want you to access scorecard and the achievements of other Representatives in the localities and put their scorecard in the public domains so that the public will know. And when the message go to the social media many other persons who are going to the House of Representatives will be challenged to do more. Because there are so many people watching us and if they do well they can also earn the award.”

Stating the essence why they decided to give the policymaker the award of excellence, the spokeperson of the group, Dr. Louisa Eikhomun-Agbonkhese, said Hon. Sergius Ogun has brought in realistic and relevant interventions to the people of Esanland especially in the area of education.

She said Hon. Ogun selfless service that began before his political representation were taken to greater heights in the eight years tenure under review in the House of Representatives.

“The visionary leader who believes education is the bed rock of the society and that tomorrow’s leaders needs nurturing, he invested in blocks of classrooms, renovated and furnished existing ones in many schools in Esan Land.

“We as Women from different Esan Groups have drawn up his achievements to give his score card on his eight years representation. He has been graded as VERY EXCELLENT with more than 5,000 individual supports on quality education to boys and girls. This is in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals 4 to ensure that by 2030 all girls and boys have access to quality education.

“Education is an essential part of a democratic and sustainable society, allowing to form active citizens, encouraging their personal development to become nation builders. Ogun has provided more opportunities for girls to attend and finish secondary schools without dropping out due to lack of enrolment fees.

“His intervention has reduced girl child marriages, trafficking and women poverty through his annual scholarships and financial assistance to families who cannot afford their daughters external exams enrolments, acceptance and school fees to higher institutions.
“We congratulate the dutiful duty bearer for fulfilling his campaign promises to the right holders as he returns from NASS giving the baton to another by May 29th.We are also using this medium to encourage other representatives in different levels to finish well with relevant and sustainable interventions so as to return to their constituencies with scorecards deserving standing ovations like that of Rt. Hon. Barr Sergius Oseasochie Ogun,” Dr. Louisa posited.

Dr. Louisa Eikhomun-Aigbonkhese further asserted that under Hon. Sergius Oseasochie Ogun Foundation (SOOF), he maintained provision of funds for: enrolment fees of 600 students (girls and boys) for NECO/SSCE examinations every year, university scholarship to best-performing students (male /female); annual distribution of free notebooks to primary and secondary school students and the support to Educational Books publication by Esan men, women and others.
