In far away United State of America, the Edo State All Progressive Congress, APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Okpebholo, exposed his fangs against the palace of the Oba of Benin by advising the King to “put the interest of Edo State Above Personal differences”.
One Henry J, who claimed to be a renowned journalist, in a report of the event which he titled, “A night to remember; Senator Okpebholo’s visit to Maryland strengthens ties with Edo State Diaspora” presented his report which partly read;
2. Oba Palace drama with Obaseki: he called for untiy and reconciliation, urging all parties to put the interest of Edo Statr above personal differences”.
The report, which had gone viral and trending on the internet has sparked outrage among the Edo South Senatorial District citizens who saw his unsolicited advise as a sacrilege against the Palace.
“How dare that media shy senator who said he is running for the office of the governor of Edo State will go all the way to the US to commit such a sacrilege against our revered Oba? Does he not know what to say? Who gave him the authority and audacity to be admonishing the Oba when he is not even a governor yet? That means when he is elected the governor, god forbid, he will be ordering our Oba about on what to do ” Osasuyi from Ikpoba Okha said on Facebook.
“It is woeful that Senator Okpebholo could commit such a sacrilege against our revered Oba where the likes of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Hon. E.J. Agbonayinma, two Benin sons, were seated without cautioning him to stop that unsolicited admonishment of our revered Oba. This goes to show how they place politics above their heritage, which ought to be protected from invaders”, Imasuen said on a group WhatsApp chat room with angry emojis.
Several other citizens registered their outrage against the APC gubernatorial candidate and gave him seven days to apologize to the Oba for his sacrilege or face the consequence of his action.
As at press time, no formal apologies have been tendered by the media shy candidate.
