Polytechnic Ex-Workers Lament Over Non-Payment Of Entitlements Two Years After Retirement
Retired Workers of the Federal Polytechnic in Idah, Kogi State, are now wallowing in pain and abject poverty due to the alleged refusal of their pension administrator – Access Pension, to pay them their entitlements two years after retirement.
The Standard Gazette investigation revealed that many of these pensioners are now selling their properties and personal belongings to fend for families.
While those lucky to be alive are grappling with life after retirement, others were allegedly snatched away by untimely death due to hardship in the cause of waiting for their gratuity and pensions.
” It is a disturbing situation to learn that after putting in 35 years meritorious service and retired without any blemish , only to be thrown into unexplainable economic quagmire by the government you served .” Senior Official of this institution stated.
Many pensioners have resorted to commercial vehicle driving to make the end meet, while those who are still strong have taken to farming.
One of the pensioners, who gave his name as John Edibo, lamented that since he retired as a Senior Executive Officer, SEO from the institution about three years ago, he has not been paid his entitlement.
He claimed to have made several efforts to know what is responsible for the situation, only to be told that the Polytechnic has finished what is required of it to enable payment to the retirees, but the Access Pension kept mum without responding to all enquiries.
Nigeria Workers are passing through difficult moments due to delays in salary payment, underpayment and lack of payment of salaries in both private and public sectors.
