POLITICAL UNREST: Shaibu’s Attempt And APC’s Desperation
By Rita Ebiuwa
Yesterday’s events which took a dramatic turn in the political landscape when Philip Shaibu, following a court judgment in his favor, attempted to forcefully assume office as the DG which he demonstrated with the vehicle, prominently displaying a plate number with the emblem of the Deputy Governor, this signified his intent to reclaim his former office.
This move was perceived by many as a bold and direct challenge to the existing political dynamics in the state even when a STAY OF EXECUTION ORDER had been granted, thereby rendering the judgment of the High Court unenforceable at this time, this stay means that the ruling cannot be acted upon until further notice.
It has become increasingly apparent that the APC, facing an uphill battle against the PDP’s strong candidate, Asue Ighodalo, resorted to desperate measures.
Recognizing their inability to match the competence and popularity of the PDP campaign, they allegedly devised a plan to incite violence and create a scenario where the Federal Government might be compelled to declare a STATE OF EMERGENCY.
Such a declaration would potentially disrupt the electoral process, giving the APC an opportunity to regroup or nullify the current momentum of the PDP.
The presence of Monday Okpebholo and Adams Oshiomhole, accompanying Philip Shaibu from Abuja to Benin City, raises serious questions about their intentions. It is clear that this orchestrated move was not merely coincidental but rather a calculated strategy linked directly to the governorship election.
Their actions suggest a deliberate plan to create unrest and disrupt the political process. The meticulous coordination and timing of their arrival indicate that the goal was to cause mayhem, thereby undermining the government, PDP political progress and attempting to tilt the electoral balance in their favor.
Eyewitnesses reported that APC thugs were actively involved in the unrest, brutally attacking innocent people who were caught in the crossfire.
The violence reached a tragic peak when two lives were lost and others in the hospital. This incident not only highlights the lengths to which the APC is willing to go but also underscores the volatility nature of Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu.
Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate, remains a symbol of competence and integrity amidst this turmoil. His campaign continues to resonate with the electorate, offering a stark contrast to the chaos orchestrated by his opponents.
The events of yesterday serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of safeguarding democratic processes and ensuring that the will of the people is upheld.
