It was a mammoth gathering at the PDP state secretariat along Airport Road as Dr Asue Ighodalo officially declared his intention to run for the position of governor of Edo state.
It was a gathering of people from all facets of the state. The National Union of Road Transport Workers, the market women union, different supporters groups were on ground with banners of different inscriptions describing the person of Dr Asue Ighodalo.
In his declaration, the man of the moment with the popular nickname “MAN WEY SABI“ appreciated everyone who sacrificed their time and resources to be part of the epoch moment. He thanked the different unions, market women, youth and leaders of the party for their unwavering support and dedication for the betterment of the party.
He said; “my aspiration today is to convey my plans and intentions to the good people of Edo State. It is my burning desire to further grow Edo State from where our amiable governor, Mr Godwin Enogheghase Obaseki has put down as a great foundation for Edo people”.
He maintained that his administration will embrace everyone; the youth, the women and the leaders. He expressed confidence that if given the opportunity to serve, he will ensure that poverty is reduced to the lowest minimum in the state.
“As part of my plans for the future of the youth, he said he will ensure that the latent potential of the young people are tapped into for the growth and development of the state”. He said further that his administration will be all compassing and unify every Edo indigenes irrespective of tribe, colour and ethnicity.
In various remark from party leaders and aspirants who stepped down from Dr Asue Ighodalo, the state leader and former minister of foreign affairs, Chief Tom Ikimi said Dr Asue Ighodalo shows good leadership style from his pedigree and the leaders/people of Edo Central has endorse him as the sole candidate. Chief Odion Ogbesia equally appreciated all members of the party for endorsing the candidacy of Dr Asue Ighodalo and advise every member to go back and canvas for the candidate. The former Chief of Staff to Former president, Mr Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Mike Ogiadomen appreciated all party leaders and members inspite of the Imbroglio that befell the party over time. He said ” Edo North leaders and members have unanimously endorsed Dr Asue Ighodalo as their choice candidate. He plead for unity to continue among all party members. Edo South PDP leader, Pa Etose Dickson Imasogie equally speak in the same voice. “As of two weeks ago, I am yet to decide on whom to support but when I saw the leadership role of Dr Asue Ighodalo, I have to endorse his candidacy and Edo South PDP Senatorial Leader.
The primary election of the party will be coming up next month of February. Hence, there is need for everyone to embrace Dr. Asue Ighodalo candidacy for the betterment of all. Dickson Imasogie further stressed.
With a heart full of joy, the incoming governor, The frontline Aspirant, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, enjoyed the crowd to align with him as he wish the father figure, Edo South PDP Senatorial leader, Pa Etose Dickson Imasogie a Happy Birthday At 82 in advance and the crowd overwhelmingly shouted “happy birthday”
