NSE to honour Vice President Shettima with Fellowship

….. As Minister Momoh calls for sanctions on erring Engineers

The Nigerian Society of Engineers says its council has approved the conferment of an Honorary Fellowship on Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima – an honor he earned for his performance as Governor of Borno State, it was learnt.

The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) dropped this hint today during a courtesy visit to the office of the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Hon. Engr. Abubakar Momoh, in Abuja.

He said, “We are glad you’re a proud member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers. We stand in solidarity with you, and this assignment is not just for you but for all of us. We are grateful to President Bola Tinubu’s government for putting a square peg in a square hole.

“We have come to inform you of our support. Rest assured, if there are engineering challenges, please throw them back to us; we are ready to assist.

“We challenge the government to engage with us. The bridge in Makurdi was designed and built by Nigerian engineers, but it’s not receiving the recognition it deserves. You’re one of us, and we’re prepared to provide you with the utmost support.

“Since you’re currently touring the Niger Delta region, should you encounter any challenges, we are ready to come to the rescue. We also extend an invitation to visit our office to see our research and development initiatives.

“The council has approved the conferment of an Honorary Fellowship on the Vice President. He achieved much during his tenure as the Governor of Borno State and played a crucial role in laying the foundation for the current performing governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, among the contestants in the election. This deserves applause.”

In response, Minister Momoh said, “President Bola Tinubu is one man who will help transform this country, which is why he introduced his eight presidential priorities, which we are currently focusing on. We will be reaching out to you to join us in this endeavor.”

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the President of the Society for honoring the Vice President, with the event scheduled to take place in three months.

Momoh added, “The Vice President’s honor is well-deserved. Thank you for this honor, and I will convey your message when he returns to the country.

“You don’t have to wait for us to call you to intervene in our initiatives; our doors are always open. I also have a Permanent Secretary who is committed to the project of improving this country. As engineers, you should play a pivotal role in advancing the country, especially in terms of corporate technology, particularly for our roads”.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of standard road constructions that would last 25-30 years and the supervisory role of engineers in government projects.

He said, “You should be in a position to hold our colleagues accountable for subpar work on government projects. The goal is to ensure they deliver quality projects for our people.

“Our colleagues in the profession need proper guidance when handling government projects, especially in terms of study and implementation. Quality must not be compromised; it must be our guiding principle.”
