*”LETS PRESERVE THE LEGACIES OF LATE CHIEF TONY ANENIH”*..Aziegbemi urges PDP leaders
The Edo State chairman of The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, has called on the leaders of the party in the state to sustain and preserve the political legacies and ideologies of the late Chief Tony Anenih. He said that some virtues he picked up as an ardent follower of the late political colossus were dedication, honesty, hard work, integrity and loyalty to party decisions.
Dr Aziegbemi made the remarks in his speech at the 5th Chief Tony Anenih memorial lecture held in Benin over the weekend. He noted that; ” If there are virtues I imbibed in my long stewardship with our late leader, they are dedication, honesty, hard work, integrity and loyalty to party decisions. Sometimes decisions taken by the party might not be favourable to all but Chief Tony Anenih had always insisted on respecting the party decisions.
” I recall in 2007, the decision of the PDP to field Professor Osunbor as the governorship candidate of the party in the state was not favorable to Chief Anenih and his followers but he rallied the troops together and ensured that PDP won the elections.
“Another example was the issue of choosing the chairman of the party after the death of Chief Sampson Ekhabafe. The Leader pronounced Chief Dan Orbih as his preferred candidate. What did we his followers do? We ensured Dan Orbih emerged.
“It has to be said that there is no way, a Party’s decision will not rub off on the wrong side of some members. What has always been the case is that such members know that there is a tomorrow and the Party will ALWAYS remember them
” It is sad to note that the reverse is now the case. We have a situation where top party leaders who were direct beneficiaries of the Chief Anenih ideologies, working against the party because their preferred candidates failed to be taken by the party. This is a great disservice to the memories of our great leader. It is a sad development that must stop.
” I want to once again use this opportunity to appeal to all our members who are still nursing the idea of working against the party in the coming governorship election in the event that their preferred candidates do not get the nod of the party at the primary, to think of our late leader and have a rethink. I believe he is watching us from where he is. What do you think he would have said or done in this situation?
” For the sake of Late Chief Tony Anenih, let us come together and build the PDP in Edo State so that we can sustain and preserve his political legacies and ideologies “
