Residents of Udakpa community in Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State have raised concerns over the worsening rate of insecurity in their communities which is a threat to peace and security in the region.
In a statement issued to newsmen and signed by a concerned youth of the community, Comrade Stephen Ojiemhen, he said the security challenges have encouraged many to relocate from the area, thereby affecting economic activities drastically and called on the local government chairman to tackle this ugly situation in the local government.
The statement also added that residents no longer feel safe in their houses as they close their activities of the day by 7 pm and also, travelers and indigenes who reside outside the area cannot travel in or out of the area without engaging the services of security agents else they would be kidnapped.
“There have been insecurity threat in Udakpa Community, the community has experienced multiple kidnapping at different locations. The recent video that’s in circulation now is the height of it all.
Kidnappers attempting to kidnap somebody in his residence, that’s to tell you the security architecture in Esan South East is very bad.
“I was expecting by now the Local Government Chairman would call for a security town Hall meeting to curb this security menace ravaging his local government but till this very moment nothing has been done.
“I want to use this opportunity to draw the attention of the Local Government Chairman to wake up to his responsibility and call an urgent security town hall meeting to address this insecurity in the Land.
“Udakpa Community people are living in fear, they can’t sleep with their two eyes close because of Kidnappers”, he stated.
