I Want To Contribute My Quota To The Development Of Esanland – Engr. Omofuma

A former candidate of the Edo Central Senatorial election, on the platform of the Labour Party, LP, and author, Engr. Osereme Christen Omofoma has spoken on the essence of a blue print for the development of Esanland.

This was disclosed on Saturday during the official launching of his book titled: “Esanland: Beyond The Horizon”, Past, Present and Future in Benin City.

He recounted his experience during his campaign with a tour of 130 communities in Esanland and the discovery of the crass under-development the region had suffered due largely to absence of synergy between the political leadership and the people that found the various kingdoms in Esan land in setting needed development agenda that would engender growth.

He further said that the movement equally exposed him to be abreast with the Esan culture and tradition which spurred him to document the kingdoms in the region for purposes of using it to drive development in the area.

“We are more educated, but less developed. I decided to write this book to lay a good foundation for our people. Our sons and daughters have held positions that could make Esan a beacon of hope. But unfortunately it has not reflected in the development of Esanland land”.

Omofoma paid tribute to the late Chief Anthony Enahoro of blessed memory whom he said moved the motion for an independent State of Nigeria many years ago, adding that it will be a dis-service if Esan people fail to do what will better the land.

He disclosed that copies of the launched book will be distributed Free to all schools in Esanland and also ensure it is incorporated in the syllabus through the Ministry of Education in the state.

“Having lived abroad for 20 years. I am back home to contribute my quota to the development of Esanland”, Omuofoma said.

Reviewing the book, Prof. Matthew Izibili, a professor of Philosophy in the Department of Philosophy, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma said the seven-chapter book with 178 pages centered on the historical background of Esan people.

According to him, ” As Esan, we are ourselves. We are not competing with anybody. Developing our land should be our major focus. Esan should be able to use their talents to do something that will positively impact Esanland. Esan Issues concern everyone. Therefore, let’s join hands together to work for our people”.

Prof. Izibili said Esan people have a history of unity. He commended the publisher of the book which he said has offered a template to advance the cause of Esanland just as he encouraged everyone to ensure he gets a copy.

He also identified the problem with some of the traditional rulers who hardly lived with their subjects in their various communities and described them as an absentees traditional rulers.

On his part, the chief launcher of the book, Sen. Imasuen Neda said we gathered there to share ideas. He said culturally Esan and Bini are one. He further said that the publisher took time to document those things that will help to grow our cultural heritage.

He said he believed that the author of the book did not publish the book for financial gains but to contribute to the development of his father land, adding that he has no doubt that the book will be appreciated by the readers.

“With this book the author is leaving a legacy behind that will be valued in the Future.

Earlier in his remarks , Linus Edeigba who spoke on behalf of Esan Patriots, a group that collaborated with the author for the book launch, said the gathering was not just to celebrate the unveiling of a book but to witness the beginning of a transformative journey—one that seeks to preserve, promote, and project the rich heritage, history, and potentials of Esanland to the world.

“Esanland, a region of great cultural depth, resilience, and history, has long been a beacon of civilization. Yet, much of our story remains untold, our achievements unrecorded, and our aspirations unexplored. This book serves as a bridge between our illustrious past, our present realities, and the boundless possibilities that lie ahead. It is a call to rediscover who we are, to inspire our people, and to chart a path for a brighter future”.

He said the purpose of the event was to showcase our history and culture, as “Esanland Beyond the Horizon” captures the essence of Esan traditions, our ancestral heritage, and the wisdom passed down through generations, adding that It also reminds us of where we come from and strengthens our identity.

“To Inspire a Renewed Commitment to Development: The book highlights the challenges and opportunities within Esanland, calling on stakeholders—leaders, professionals, and the youth—to embrace innovation, education, and community-driven progress

“To Ignite a Global Conversation About Esanland: This launch is not just about reading history; it is about shaping history. By sharing our story, we invite the world to see Esanland in a new light—one of possibilities, resilience, and excellence”, Edeigba stressed.

He described the book as an important literary work, that has the capacity to change the perception of the average Esan man to begin to see the future of Esanland dependent on how they honor their past and embrace the challenges of today and project into the future.

“Osereme Christen Omofoma is a petroleum engineer from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Canada, and a biochemistry graduate from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
