Hon. Sergius Ogun Constructs Rural Roads In Edo Central
Last week, the outgoing honourable member representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency of Edo State in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Barr.) Deacon Sergius Ose Ogun embarked on a tour of completed and ongoing road projects in the old Agbazilo.
Some of the roads inspected by the Edo 2024 Governorship Hopeful and Oracle of Rural Development are the Ubiaja-Ahia-Ebu road, Otoikhimin-Ugboha-Ebhoiki Uzea road, Ugboha-Amalu-Anegbete road, Idigun-Otoikhimin-Inemen road and others.
Speaking with newsmen during the inspection, Hon. Sergius Ogun who explained why he facilitated the road projects said: “these communities are neighbours. We interact and we inter-marry. In the past, the men just strolled through and got a wife from whichever community they find one. But over the years, the roads have gone so bad. Some years ago, even before I became a politician, I used to grade some of the roads with my personal resources. But I started asking myself what will it take to get these communities to come together so that they can begin to trade with one another again. So I wrote for five of them which are; Uzea -Uroh-Ugboha road, Ewoiki-Ugboha road, Ugboha -Anegbete road, Ugboha -Oria road and Ubiaja-Ugboha road.
Going further the Uncommon Federal Lawmaker revealed that “these are communities that used to trade with one another and because of the bad roads they can’t bring their farm produce out and trade with one another and even visit one another. And I asked myself, what will it take to get them to do this again? That’s how I conceived the idea, wrote about it and I followed it up and the immediate past minister approved it. You see this has been in the works. They would have finished the projects by now but it was a case of no sufficient funds. However, along the line some people within the ministry said why don’t we take it in phases and if we take it in phases we could make budget for each phase annually and in three, four, five years they would be done.
Regardless of the irreducible fact that his second term would come to an end next week, the Promise-Keeper assured that all ongoing projects would be completed in due course. He added; “So, that’s where we are now. This is phase one and maybe by the time we get to phase four, we would have completed them. These projects are already federal government projects, This year, I didn’t have to disturb them before they allocated funds for the projects in the budget because they are ongoing projects. So annually they (FG) will budget money for them. So the only challenge is that when you are not around to disturb them, someone might wake up to put two hundred million on any of these road projects and it won’t do a whole lot. So they (FG) have to keep budgeting for more.
“We are standing on the land of Esan South-East and if you move down maybe some 5km, you will be in Esan North-East. Esan North-East is one of the two LGAS which constitute the federal constituency that I’m representing and that’s the same constituency the new elected member will be representing come on the 13th of June, 2023. So hopefully, he will continue from there. I know he is a good person, and my advice for him will be hit the ground running. I’m here to always advise him. I will guide and support him to succeed,” he concluded.
