Today, as we mark *Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Nigeria,* we pause to reflect on the immense sacrifices made by our gallant men and women in uniform. These courageous individuals have laid down their lives and endured countless trials to defend our sovereignty, protect our borders, and uphold the peace we enjoy.
The theme for this year, *“Sacrifice for Sovereignty: Building a Culture of Honour,”* is a powerful reminder of the debt of gratitude we owe to our armed forces, both past and present. It challenges us as Nigerians to cultivate a culture that values sacrifice, celebrates bravery, and supports the families of those who have paid the ultimate price for our nation.
Every soldier who fought valiantly on the Frontline, every veteran who still bears the scars of service, and every grieving family that has lost a loved one to war or conflict is a testament to the resilience and strength that define us as a people. Their sacrifice is the foundation of the sovereignty we hold dear, and their courage inspires hope in the face of adversity.
On this solemn day, let us come together as one nation to honour their legacy. Let us ensure that their stories are told, their names are remembered, and their sacrifices are never forgotten. We can build a culture of honour by supporting the families of our fallen heroes, advocating for better welfare for our veterans, and ensuring our armed forces are equipped and appreciated for the role they play in safeguarding our future.
As we place wreaths and observe moments of silence in remembrance, let us also renew our commitment to fostering unity, peace, and progress in Nigeria. Our sovereignty, secured through the sacrifices of these brave individuals, is a collective responsibility. Together, we can work towards a Nigeria where their sacrifices are not in vain—a nation built on justice, equality, and honour.
Today, and every day, let us salute our heroes, standing shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with their families and loved ones. Let their courage and sacrifice continue to inspire us to strive for a better Nigeria.
We remember. We honour. We pledge.
*Happy Armed Forces Remembrance Day!*
