Gunmen who killed 3 policemen in Edo State are from Okene, Kogi State
The gunmen who attacked and killed three Nigerian police officers in Edo State came from Okene, Kogi State, The Standard Gazette has learned.
In the early hour of Wednesday, 06 April 2023, gunmen ambushed officers from Igarra police station who were on routine patrol, killing three.
TSG learned that the group relocated to Edo State for the sole purpose of the kidnapping business. According to findings, attacking police was the first phase, in a daring attempt to destabilize the Force, before operating freely.
However, the well-planned attack failed after one of the escapee officers reorganized and killed one of the shooters, injured one and another was arrested alive.
The injured gunman, This Gazette learned, was transferred to Hospital in Benin City, where he was pronounced dead due to his severe injury.
The Divisional Police Officer in Igarra, Edo state, later led the team of policemen to transfer the suspects to the State Police Command headquarters in Benin City.
The police said the suspect in custody has confessed, giving the investigators useful information to hunt for the others.
The leadership of the Edo state police command is yet to make any public statement on the incident.
Officers recovered 6 AK 47 rifles from the suspects, among which were the rifles they looted from the fallen officers.
