GT Restaurant’s staff sent to 1 year imprisonment for stealing
Odion Betty Onoilu, a former employee of GT Fast Food and Restaurant, has been sentenced to one year in prison with no option for a fine.
Betty received a sentence from the Ogbeson Magistrate Court in the IKpoba Okha local government area of Edo State.
During the court proceedings led by Chief Magistrate Bernard Oloye Esq., it was revealed that the defendant stole the money in 2021 from the Agbor Road Branch of the Company located in Benin City.
The police arrested her and conducted an investigation before charging her in Court under case No. MOGB/53C/2021. Her charge was for stealing an unspecified amount of money while she was employed at the restaurant.
During the trial, the Court held the belief that Odion showed no remorse. Additionally, the Court expressed the opinion that despite the abundance of evidence presented, the convict did not choose to use the plea bargain option.
According to the Court, the defendant’s actions had the potential to cause investors to go out of business.
The Court had set a date of June 1, 2023, for the judgement after a two-year trial.
Upon reviewing the arguments of the plaintiff and the defendant, Magistrate Bernard Oloyo, Esq. issued a verdict sentencing Odion Betty Onoilu to one year in prison for theft, with no possibility of paying a fine instead.
As soon as the judgement was given, the officials from the Edo State Correctional Service took their place in the courtroom and promptly took custody of the convict.
After being transported to the Edo state police command headquarters in Benin City, she underwent a COVID-19 test before she was transferred to Oko correctional centre in Oko.
