GOV. FUBARA ORDERS CONTRACTOR BACK TO SITE OR FACE EMBARRASSMENT
…Says he has paid 70% of the contract sum
…Assures of completing the internal roads
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has ordered the contractor handling the Bori internal roads to return to site or be ready to face embarrassment.
Governor Fubara spoke to newsmen when he took an inspection tour of the Bori internal roads on Saturday.
The governor noted that he visited the road after he got several reports that he has abandoned the project due to the ongoing political conflicts in the state, stressing that though he inherited the project from the previous administration, his administration paid the first and second tranches of N2billion apiece amounting to 70% of the total contract sum.
“This project was awarded before my assumption of office but I made the two payments for this project. The value of this project is over N6.billion. In the month of June I made the first payment of N2billion and later in December I made another N2billion which is about 70% of the contract value.”
“So, I am surprised that somebody will say that we are not interested in completing this project for my Senatorial district.”
He said it is more worrisome that after he paid in December, the contractor did not move to the site, stressing that a letter was sent to the contractor few days ago to provide explanation why he failed to mobilise to site after receiving payment, but rather what he did was to sack the front desk officer who received the letter
“A letter we sent to enable him update us on what is happening on the road. I don’t want to mention the name of the contractor, let it not be seen as personal, but the contractor knows himself. He should rather return to site, otherwise he will be embarrassed”
Governor Fubara assured the people that he will make sure that the project is completed even if the contractor is not willing to do so.
The governor later inspected the 3.7 kilometers Luwa road and Healthcare Centre
