Flooding: Edo govt asks residents in Riverine areas to relocate to higher planes
The Edo State Government has urged on residents in lowland and riverine areas in the state to relocate to higher plans as a result of an impending flooding in the areas.
In a statement, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare said: “The Edo State Government has been informed by relevant agencies of a likely flooding due to incessant torrential downpour across the country.
“We are using this medium to inform residents in lowlands and riverine areas including those in Agenebode, Anegbete and Ilullshi of Etsako East, Etsako Central and Esan South East LGA, and areas in Ikpoba Okha, Ovia North-East and Ovia South-West, respectively, are hereby put on notice to be vigilant and relocate to a higher plain.
“The Edo State Government will provide the needed support required to residents displaced from their homes by flooding.”
Nehikhare added, “The State Government is also working closely with the NEMA to ensure that residents affected by flooding have access to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.”
