Flood Alert : Dr. Ikpea Cautions State Governments. Calls For Proactive State Policies

Following the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA’s warning that 14 states and 31 communities may witness heavy rainfall leading to flooding from July 4 to 8 across the country, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, and a governorship hopeful in the forthcoming 2024 governorship election in Edo state, Dr. Joseph Ikpea has called on state governments and other relevant agencies to as a matter of urgency, act proactively to check the devastating effects the rains may have on the people.

Dr Joseph Ikpea, in a statement issued in Benin said “NEMA’s warning could not have been more timely than now that the rains are increasing daily. This warning is intended to serve as a call to government to put machinery in place to clear the drains in order to allow for free flow of flood waters.

Hon. Joseph Ikpea who also appeals to state governors to open up drains and drainages in their states in other to alleviate the consequential effects on the people.

“The non provision of drainages and routes for easy flow of flood waters will surely have colossal effects on the citizens as it may rendered them homeless even as many farm lands will be eroded thereby leading to low productivity in the farming sector of our economy.

” The consequential but logical effect of this will be scarcity of food as well as astronomical hike in price of food related commodities”. The Edo state governorship hopefully then enjoined all state government to put proper planning in place ahead of the flooding
