EUF CALLS ON EDO STATE GOVERNMENT TO RESCIND ITS DECISION TO HIKE AAU TUITION FEE

Members of Edo-okpa Unity Forum (EUF), a non religious, non political and NGO made up of like minded people of Edo State extraction has condemned the hike of tuition by over 300 per cent, by the Edo State Government in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

The Forum made this known at a recently convened Emergency meeting on the State of the Nation which held at its worldwide headquarters in Lagos and presided over by the Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Peters Evbota.

EUF described the decision of the school management to increase tuition fee at this time as highly unjustifiable, anti people and cruelty of the highest order, considering the present economic situation in the country.

The Forum noted that Education is the bedrock of any nation and that if the decision is not rescinded, many parents will be forced to withdraw their wards from school and that will have a dangerous implication.

The irony of the situation the Forum stressed is that this present generation of leaders enjoyed free education under Awolowo and Professor Alli’s regimes and therefore see no reason why this shouldn’t continue knowing that it is the children of the poor that attends government schools.

The organization therefore called on the state government under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki, The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sonnie Asomwan Adagbonyin and his Deputy Vice-Chancellor and all concerned stakeholders to as a matter of urgency look into this critical issue and reverse the tuition.

Comrade Mark Akhuetie
Secretary General
