Esan Central LGA Boss begins refuse, drainage clearing and evacuation.

Leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the agenda of Environmental Sustainability is pursued with rigorous vigour, the Environment Department of Esan Central Local Government under the leadership of Barr. Idemudia Ilueminosen is presently evacuating the drainage systems and debris along Momodu Road, Irrua and other places.
The exercise is part of measures to allow free flow of rain water along the drains in other to prevent flooding especially during this rainy season and to keep the environment clean.
The council boss who was accompanied by some staff of the LGA on inspection of the ongoing drainage clearing and evacuation exercise in a chat with urbanscoopnews, said the local government needs a proper framework to address environmental issues, which is why he has commenced the initiative in his local council to clear the drainage channels in the bid to ensure a clean environment, free from health hazards.
He said that drainage systems in some of the communities had been blocked for several years, thereby, causing flooding whenever there was downpour.
“We have commenced repairs and clearing of drainage systems in Irrua the administrative headquarters of Esan Central Local Government which have been blocked and neglected for several years and this will be extended for other communities.
“We decided to embark on immediate clearing of blocked drainage systems and water paths following reports of flooding in recent times.
“Some of the drainage were filled with sands, while some are already damaged, we therefore decided to evacuate the sands and repair the damaged ones to curb flooding during the raining season.
“Before we started this project, some residents living in the affected areas where the drainage were blocked have been experiencing incessant flooding.
The council boss attributed the blockage to indiscriminate dumping of refuse and construction of buildings on the water ways.
He warned residents to desist from it as their actions had contributed to the blockage of flow of flood.
Some residents in the area thanked the council authority for the swift response to their pleas.
