Eight persons were said to have perished in a motor accident on Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway near New Garriki market, Enugu.
A trailer moving at a high speed was said to have climbed a commercial vehicle and crushed eight persons to death on the spot while several others were injured and were rushed to the hospital.
Police spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the incident said it was true but said only one person died while four others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the hospital.
“Yes, there was a fatal motor accident. Only one person was confirmed dead at the time of he report while four others were hospitalised, please,” Ndukwe said.
A source said a woman that was passing by was also crushed by the vehicle and had to be pulled out from the reckage.
