Emwanta Missed It
By Amb. Tony Okonigene
When I read that Barr. Adaze Emwanta had finally decided to come out of hiding after misleading the public with his false claims concerning the July 4th judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja , delivered by Justice Inyang Ekwo and to show his face on Channels TV, I was forced to start wondering if he had summoned the courage to come and ask for forgiveness. I had my reservations also because of the antecedents of the Emwanta I have seen in action before. One could still recollect his unrepentant attitude after a similar deed last year.
Though I expected it, I was still taken aback by his audacity. I have seen a lot of people grandstanding in the face of obvious falsehoods but never in the league that Emwanta displayed on Channels TV yesterday. Even his opponent who is a seasoned lawyer was embarrassed that a colleague could condescend so low.
In all his attempts to bully his lies through, Emwanta did not answer the simple question begging for answer. Where did he read in the judgement that the court annulled the primary conducted by the PDP and also declared that Barr. Asue Ighodalo was no longer the candidate? Instead he went about giving his interpretations of the findings of the court and not the declarations after the findings.
Barr Emwanta also asked the embarrassing question some uninformed individuals have been asking and that is ;if the PDP feels that the judgement is of no consequence, why is it appealing? Coming from a layman is excusable but not from a lawyer. The PDP is going to question the jurisdiction of the court and correct the abnormality this judgement is trying to create in our jurisprudence and nothing else.
Barr. Emwanta was supposed to have come on air weeping and begging for forgiveness from Nigerians especially the APC supporters who saw the whole thing as a live straw for their drawling party in Edo State. His inexcusable careless actions led some people into debts. When the truth came out, the disappointment has been grievous. They will find it difficult to forgive him. He missed a God given opportunity to do the needful.
