Emperor must be ashamed by now
By Robbinson Ikhanoba
Emperor Jarret Tenebe, the acting Chairman of the Edo State All Progressives Congress, yesterday galloped to KingSquare to decree that no protests against bad governance had graced the streets of Benin. In his quest for a cheap political point, he seemed oblivious to the irony unfolding right behind him.
Lo and behold, thousands of protesters materialized at KingSquare, aptly named RingRoad for the circles it seems to run around the truth. From Ugbowo to the University of Benin, the city’s streets brimmed with demonstrators. In a display of genuine leadership, Governor Godwin Obaseki, just like Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, addressed the crowd.
But who takes a man seriously when his word is as slippery as an eel? That’s Emperor Tenebe for you—a maestro of misinformation, always ready to dance to the gallery. A man who has no shame.
Not too long ago, he accused the impeached Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu of swiping his multimillion-naira wristwatch, staging a grand press conference to bemoan his loss.
Fast forward to today, and he’s now cozying up with the very same Shaibu he called a criminal – just wondering why the state is not pursuing this criminal accusation though.
Integrity, it seems, is a concept as foreign to this Emperor as factual reporting. Why should anyone believe a word from a man who treats the truth like a plaything? A man without honour and dignity can degenerate to the gutters. That’s what the leadership of the APC in Edo state epitomises.
