EDSG REVS UP WASTE MANAGEMENT SENSITIZATION
As part of plans to make Edo State clean and healthy, the State Government through the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability has revved up sensitization on waste disposal and management practices around the Ihama axis of Benin Metropolis.
Leading the team drawn from the personnel of the Ministry, Edo State Waste Management Board, Environmental Health Officers and Security Agencies, the Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Arch. Joshua Omokhodion, who championed the campaign through the nooks and crannies of the area, sensitized residents and business owners on clean and green practices for a more sustainable environment conducive to live and conduct business.
Arc. Omokhodion noted that the exercise was not to give abatement notices to erring households and business premises but to update them on approved waste disposal methods that would ensure an environmentally friendly atmosphere for all.
While highlighting proper ways of waste disposal to include bagging of wastes and proper evacuation, the Commissioner explained that indiscriminate waste disposal poses great dangers to the physical wellbeing of residents as a dirty environment breeds disease vectors which are responsible for the spread of sicknesses and avoidable deaths.
He urged residents in the area to imbibe the culture of cleanliness, adding that the government will not relent in its efforts to ensure the State is clean, green, safe and healthy.
Arc. Omokhodion further advised residents to patronize the services of accredited waste managers for proper and easy evacuation, reiterating that government has set up a task force saddled with the responsibility of monitoring and apprehending offenders for trial in mobile courts.
