Edo State Labour Party Crisis – A Call for Peace Before it Will Be Too Late

The crisis in the Labour Party Edo State chapter has entered the crescendo. The indiscriminate suspension of members, allegation of corruption by the State Working Committee and high handedness are the tripod reasons for the crisis in the state. There may be other reasons, but these are the reasons I have been able to find out.
From my investigation, most of the suspension is influenced by ‘Our Guy’. The last straw that broke Carmel’s back was the ill-advised and ill-conceived suspension of the state youth leader, Comrade Ken Omusi. This led to the self-declaration by Ken Omusi that he is the Acting Chairman of the Party in the state.
This has led to several attacks on his person. His house was attacked and his vehicle was badly damaged at the wee hours of the night. As I write, he is into hiding. Some of his loyalists are being attacked and threatened to be attacked.
As a stakeholder and member of the Labour Party, I want to state without equivocation that the indiscriminate suspension of members of the party when we are about going into an election is not good for our party. It is ill-conceived and those not portray us as contenders but pretenders. Dialogue is the best way to settle issues in politics. Violence is not the best way to resolve issues.
At this juncture, I call on the national working committee of our party to swift into action in solving this problem. We thank God no life has been lost yet, we don’t pray for any life to be lost. Before it is too late, action is needed by the NWC in solving this crisis based on the laws of our party. Resolving the crisis now will give the party focus in facing the next election in the state.
