Edo State Government Signs MoU with Oando Clean Energy Limited For Electric Buses and 175MW Wind Energy Project
…. Obaseki lauds Hon Enaholo for wooing investors to Edo state.
It’s been noted as first of its kind as
the Executive Governor of Edo state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki signed an agreement with Oando clean Energy Limited for electric buses and the establishment of 175MW Wind energy project. The Governor who was represented by the SSG, Barr Osarodion Ogie applauded the Hon. Commissioner for Mining and Energy, Amb Ojeifoh Enaholo for this great feat.
The electric buses require only 0.189 kilowatts to cover a distance of 1 kilometer, whereas a diesel vehicle would need 6 litres to traverse the same distance. This makes electric transportation more cost-effective. It’s crucial to recognize that the future of mobility is heading towards clean Energy alternatives. The upcoming phase in this transition involves in mobility, wherein electricity replaces traditional fuels like diesel or petrol. This shift is indicative of a revolutionary change.
Hon. Enaholo in his statement said that Governor Obaseki is committed to position Edo at the forefront of industrial development while supporting existing structural growth indicators. The 175 megawatts supplied by Oando Clean Energy will enhance market strength in Edo state and neighbouring regions. He emphasized that installation of some of these projects is scheduled to commence in the first week of February, and portends the possibility of a transformative experience for those visiting Edo state. The introduction of electric buses is imminent, and a wind energy project is set to begin in identified locations such as Uhunmwode, Uromi/Ubiaja, and Akoko-Edo in Edo South, Central, and North respectively.
Mr Ademola Ogunbajo, the Executive Vice President of Oando Clean Energy, noted that energy serves as the foundation for growth. States capable of producing energy consistently will witness astronomical industrial growth. Despite significant global challenges, including conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine dispute, the impact of Covid, and climate change, Oando is committed to not just compensating but actively working to mitigate the effects of climate change on the environment. The agreement signed will trigger innovative solutions to decarbonize Edo state, especially in the transportation sector where energy consumption is being targeted for decarbonization.
The Secretary to the State Government, Barr Osarodion Ogie expressed satisfaction after a thorough review of the innovation, noting that his initial reservations were dispelled. He praised the contents and benefits of the projects and extended gratitude for the signed agreement. Recognizing the sophistication of Edo state, he emphasized that these initiatives align with the strategic plan for the future.
