Edo Guber Race: Okpebholo’s Chance suffers more setbacks As Mayaki Exits All APC Social Platforms

By Kingsley Ohens

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. John Mayaki, who declined the appointment as the Director of New Media for the APC Campaign Council for the 2024 governorship election, has taken further measures by reportedly exiting all social platforms of his party in Edo State.

The fiery journalist and social crusader was reported to have chastised his party on the Edo State APC WhatsApp platform, saying, “Where was the party when I was dying in the hospital for three months? Do you see me as a person who needs the party to survive? Where was the party when Mike Igini instituted a N5B suit against me after the 2020 governorship election? Tell me, what has the party done for me?” he queried.

He was said to be replying to a comment by another participant who expressed reservations over Mayaki’s declining of his appointment as Director of New Media, saying the party wouldn’t consider him for any role in the future. But Mayaki reportedly exploded and wrote off the party.

It is not certain what his political dispositions are towards the forthcoming governorship election since his decision to exit his party’s social platforms, but he is known to be a principled person who has a mind of his own.

There are, however, speculations that the anti-Governor Godwin Obaseki crusader may not support the candidate of his party since exiting its platforms. Will Mayaki support the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Asue Ighodalo? Only time will tell.
