Edo Guber 2024: Why Hon. Sergius Ogun, should contest

Several posts have emerged on the social media since the conduct of the 2023 general elections, calling on Hon. Sergius Ogun, to contest the 2024 governorship election.
Hon. Ogun is a core Member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and he is the current Member representing Esan North East and Esan South East Federal Constituency in the national assembly, record has it that since he was elected in 2015, the lawmaker has affected the lives of his Constituents and beyond with the numerous projects he executed personally while others were facilitated through the federal government as Constituency projects.
The people from Edo Central, Edo South and Edo North calling on Ogun to contest the 2024 election in Edo state, holds him at high esteem because he is a man who has achieved so much during eight years in the legislative arm of government, and they believe he also has the potential to do so much more for the people of the state.
In the several plea examined by this writer calling on him to aspire for the exalted position and run for the state’s gubernatorial election coming up, the people strongly believe that with his experience and track record, he is the right person for the job. Because according to them, he has proven himself to be a visionary leader dedicated to the welfare and progress of his Constituency, especially with the several bills he has sponsored which is a sign of his
commitment to improving the lives of the people.
Further study of the plea explains that the people are convinced that Hon. Ogun, have what it takes to be an outstanding governor. They further explained that he possess the leadership qualities, the experience, and the vision necessary to move Edo state forward and tackle the challenges ahead.
TIP OF THE ICEBERG ON SOME OF HIS REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
Some of his remarkable achievements includes his recent motion to berate the ineffectiveness that has characterized internet banking services across the online banking platforms of most commercial banks in Nigeria which has brought untold hardship, suffering and difficulties upon Nigerians in the past three months.
And the house then resolved to Call on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to direct all Commercial Banks in the country to immediately overhaul their existing online/electronic banking platforms for efficiency and ease of conducting electronic banking operations;
Rt Hon. (Barr.) Deacon Sergius Oseasochie Ogun has also sponsored a bill for an act to amend the Child’s Right Act 2003, Official Gazette No 116, Vol. 90 And Related Matters ( HB. 1442). The amendment recommends 6 Months Jail Term For Parents of Abandoned Children.
He moved a motion for the protection of indigenous Contractors in the Petroleum Sector. And also moved a motion on: “The Need to Provide Rehabilitation and Welfare Centres For Critically Ill And Physically Challenged Persons” on the floor of the House of Representatives on Wednesday 9th December 2015. The motion was adopted and the House resolved that its committees on Health Care Services, Poverty Alleviation, Women Affairs and Social Development should liase with relevant ministries to formulate measures to address the issue while urging the Federal Government to make budgetary provisions in the 2016 Appropriation Bill for such categories of Nigerians.
He again moved a motion on the Need to Curb The Rising Spate of Kidnapping/Robbery in Esan North /South East Federal Constituency. His bill for an act to establish Federal Medical Centre Uromi Edo State has scaled through second reading and if passed to law and assented by President Muhammadu Buhari, the town will take a new shape as the health sector will receive a boost while more professionals would be gainfully employed.
His bill for an act to establish National Institute For Agricultural Research Oria, Esan South-East LGA, Edo state has scaled through second reading. The goal of the bill, is in line with his constituents will to have a National Institute for Agricultural Research established in Oria, Edo State. If passed and signed to law, the establishment will stimulate interest in agricultural research and agricultural development both in Edo State and in Nigeria. Aside that, it will also provide employment for the unemployed graduates and youths of Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.
Hon. Barr. Deacon Sergius Ose Ogun, has built the Ubiaja divisional office, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, as one of his constituency projects. He has made history as the first individual to build a fire station since the beginning of the nation’s fire service in 1901. And to the glory of God, the Constituency at Ubiaja, now have a functional fire station replete with a new fire truck worth over #200 million in Esan Land.
He has also donated relief materials worth millions of naira to flood victims in Esan South-East Local Government Area. And in line with his foundation’s annual custom, he has been donating bags of rice to widows in Ugboha community to celebrate Christmas or Easter as the case maybe.
As part of his incontrovertibly commitment to attracting dividends of democracy to his constituency, the Federal lawmaker facilitated the Ugboha -Ewoiki Road project which is ongoing. He also facilitated the construction of two rural roads at Uzea in Esan North-East and Oria in Esan South-East.
Hon. Barr. Deacon Sergius Ose Ogun, has personally sponsored Constituency projects through collaboration with National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI) Umudike, Abia State, by empowering two hundred and ten farmers in the federal Constituency. The beneficiaries received practical training on how to produce cassava bread, cassava cake, cassava bun, cassava crisps, cocoyam strips, cassava salad cream and fruit juice.
And at the end of the five-day empowerment seminar each farmer smiled home with a bundle of high yield cassava stems and certificate of participation. The lawmaker has also awarded full scholarship to 189 students who are studying various courses at the National Institute of Construction Technology Uromi, Edo State.
He sponsored the first ever music talent hunt in Esan North East /South East Federal Constituency. Three promising music stars were discovered at the end of the SOO LIVE THE DREAM MUSIC TALENT HUNT. They were rewarded with cash award and also signed by DIHOO RECORDS.
Amongst other humanitarian work embarked by the federal lawmaker to alleviate the lives of the people, is free medical outreach programmes in some communities where over eight thousand residents have benefited free of charge and each went home with free drugs as recommended by the doctors and free mosquito treated nets.
He constructed a fully functional bore-hole at Uzea, Esan North East LGA. The Federal Lawmaker has over the years sponsored the printing and distribution of millions of note books to students /pupils in both private and public schools in Esan North East /South East Federal Constituency. The best graduating Esan HND student and Best Graduating Esan ND Student of Auchi Polytechnic Auchi, were also rewarded with huge amount of cash.
Sergius Oseasochie Ogun Foundation (SOOF) 2015 /2016 FREE NECO /SSCE ENROLMENT SCHEME has been on for over eight years now, and six hundred deserving applicants receive cash grant from the Foundation annually to enroll for their NECO /SSCE, while the overall six best candidates are granted automatic Scholarship to to study in any University of their choice within Nigeria.
