EDO GOVT SEALS UP ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE AGAINST NOISE POLLUTION
As part of effort to create an enabling environment for residents and investors in the state to thrive, Edo State Government has warned owners of entertainment centers against indiscriminate use of sound recorders to cause noise pollution in residential areas.
Honorable Commissioner for ministry of Environment and Sustainability, Architect, Joshua Omokhodion gave this charge in Benin City, when the monitoring team of the ministry sealed up one JYOTI ROYAL HOTEL located at Country Home, off Sapele, Benin City whose activities are alleged to have been causing nuisance to residents living in the area who said they no longer sleep with their two eyes closed because of the increasing noise pollution.
Architect Omokhodion said,” We are present at the hotel to seal it up following a court order. Although, the hotel seems to be one of the best in the state but it creates noise pollution to the extent that residents are no longer happy about it.”
He further stated that noise pollution is one of the major problems being suffered by people in the state as it affects their resting time and leisure hours and worse still, their health.
The commissioner said most of the residents are complaining seriously, that is why they have taken a drastic step to put an abrupt end to it, adding that the Government Reservation Areas used to be known for its quiet and serene nature in the past but today the reverse is the case, hence the bold step to regulate the excesses of lounge and club owners as well as residents has become very necessary.
However, he warned hotel owners against noise pollution, noting that the State Government will not relent until the issue of noise pollution is reduced to the barest minimum.
