EDO 2024: THE NEED TO DIFFERENTIATE EXPERIENCED HAND FROM APPRENTICES

In a recent interview with the frontline Edo governorship hopeful 2024, Hon. Dr. Joseph Ikpea spoke on what he would have done differently if there was room for him to make inputs in drafting the constitution. He said he would have made it mandatory for guber aspirants to be people with tracks records. It should be for people who does genuine businesses and have been seen to make remarkable impacts over time in their management of resources. The office of a governor is too complicated and demanding that it shouldn’t be for men who has nothing to offer. It shouldn’t be for those who are idle or see politics as the only alternative. Above all, the position shouldn’t be for learners, so they don’t mess things up any further as the state cannot afford another mistake this critical time.

He went further to state that he typically exemplifies the man who is very fit for the job this material time having had experiences in both private and public sectors and all were laced with success stories and commendations to the glory of God. He recalled the series of awards and commendations he won while in public office of which the then Adams Oshiomole’s commendation for prudent management of resources and infrastructural development was one of them in his days as local government chairman amidst dwindling revenues across all tiers of government. As the country wallowed in recession then, his administration witnessed unprecedented progress; and this was highly commended by all and sundry.

He ended the interview showing his preparedness for the job, saying he is a full bred politician who started handling sensitive positions since the tenure of H. E Lucky Igbinedion where he served as Chairman of Edo State Library Board. He served as Edo Central Honorable Representative as Board Member in Edo State Universal Basic Education Board under Comrade Adams Oshiomole. He also served as Executive Chairman of Esan South East local government and A member of State Executive Council where he doubled as the Honorable Commissioner for Minerals and Oil & Gas; a position he was meritoriously singled out for, based on his track records in oil and gas business (Lee Engineering and allied companies) where he served as an Executive Director.

Proudly, Dr Joseph Ikpea concluded his interviews that 2024 should not be for apprentice, rather it should be for experienced hand like his.

Truly, he is the man the cap fits this time as his political relevance cuts across all democratically elected government in the state since return to democracy in 1999.

*Hon Dr. Joseph Ikpea to the rescue!*
