Edo 2024, Rt Hon. Sergius Ogun And The Quest For Sustainable Development
For Rt Hon. (Barr.) Deacon Sergius Ose Ogun, the outgoing honourable member representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency of Edo state in the House of Representatives, leadership is all about putting the people first. This has been his guide and guard all through the years spanning from his private strides in the oil and gas sector, philanthropy to politics. At every point in time, the People’s General as he is fondly called is on the side of the common man.
Having tasted the sour grapes of poverty and lack in childhood, he knows what it means to be poor and helpless. This apparently explains why he has irretrievably and irrevocably dedicated his entire life to helping the poor, transforming communities and contributing in no mean measure to the betterment of the society through personal interventions, and in no lesser degree, the instrumentality of his political office.
Beyond every modicum of doubt, the gains made by successive democratic administrations in Edo will be sustained and built upon if Edolites have a man of Rt Hon. Sergius Ogun’s pedigree calling the shots in the highest of office of our dear native state. His antecedents lends enormous credence to his credibility and limitless capacity to do things differently. The following few specifics would suffice. As a player in the oil and gas sector, he gave meaningful and gainful employment to many Edo sons and daughters and mentored some to become pace setters in the enviable sector. When it comes to humanitarian work, the name of the Beacon of Hope certainly rings out loud with a striking cadence like the sound of a gong among drums. Little wonder he was nicknamed “Oluesele Nomioguele” by his ever appreciative Esan people. On a yearly basis, his foundation- Sergius Oseasochie Ogun Foundation (SOOF) embarks on numerous multi-million humanitarian programmes among which are SOOF Free NECO/SSCE Enrollment Scheme, SOOF University Scholarship Scheme, SOOF Free Notebooks Distribution Excercise, SOOF Free Medical Outreach, SOOF Charity Visit to Orphanages and Correctional Facility, SOOF Free Rice Distribution to Widows, SOOF Empowerment Scheme and financial assistance to the needy to mention but a few.
Above all, Rt Hon. Sergius Ogun’s first and second journey to the House of Representatives Abuja evidently reveals that the good man knows what good governance is about. He did not go there to represent his pockets. Nope rather as a responsible, reliable, credible and worthy representative he fought hard to deliver the true dividends of democracy to his people. The establishment of Agbazilo Mechanized Constituency Farm Oria, Refurbishment of Department of Agriculture Ubiaja, Establishment of a brand new Fire Station and Civil Defence office Ubiaja , Construction of scores of school blocks, roads, health centres etc in his constituency are ripe fruits of his effective representation. To cap it up, he sponsored momentous bills for the establishment of Federal Medical Centre Uromi, Federal College of Education Ugboha and National Institute for Agricultural Research Oria.
On the national front, Rt Hon. Sergius Ogun has since become the voice and defender of the ordinary people. His famous bill which sought to ban children of public officials from schooling abroad earned him national recognition and commendation. Similarly, his bill on the need to prohibit public officials from embarking on foreign medical tourism clearly put him several miles ahead of the crowd of political office holders in the current political dispensation. Needless to add his motion which urged JAMB to desist from imposing multiple registration charges on applicants. The list of Rt Hon. Sergius Ogun’s people-centred bills/motions is an interestingly long one.
By every parameter of sound judgement, Rt Hon. Sergius Ogun has everything it takes to sustain the developmental progress made so far and lift Edo State to higher heights of all-round greatness. This is why we are urging him to answer the call of Edo people and declare his interest to run in 2024. It is possible and doable!
