In a landmark judgment, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has reaffirmed Barr. Asuerinme Akintunde Ighodalo as the authentic and duly nominated Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
Delivering the judgment in the suit marked CS/469/24, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court upheld Dr. Ighodalo’s nomination, which was contested by the Plaintiff, Philip Shaibu. The court’s decision validates Barr. Ighodalo’s victory at the PDP primaries held on February 22, 2024, at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Edo State.
At the primaries, the Man Wey Sabi, Barr. Asue Ighodalo emerged as the party’s governorship candidate, scoring a total of 577 votes to defeat his closest rival, Philip Shaibu, and 10 other aspirants. Today’s court judgment reaffirms his candidacy and puts to rest any doubts or disputes over his nomination.
This development is a significant milestone in the run-up to the Edo State governorship election, solidifying Barr. Ighodalo’s position as the PDP’s standard-bearer.
