On his part, Chief Tom Ikimi said that he holds the movement to produce an Edo State Governor of Esan extraction from the PDP very close to his heart. He told the party faithful that he has consulted widely amongst the leaders of the Edo North and South Senatorial Districts and majority of them have agreed that it is the turn of the Edo Central Senatorial District to produce the next Governor of Edo State. The chairman wondered why anyone will choose to attend meetings that they lack the party structure to implement any decision taken. He advised party leaders to be mindful of the kind of meetings they attend henceforth. He promised that the candidate of the party will be determined collectively .
Responding, most of the party leaders (one leader, one youth, one woman, one ward chairman), praised the Senatorial District leadership for the initiative to set up the Special Committee at this time. They asked the Committee to be transparent in their activities and ensure that they recommend a candidate that can win the governorship election for the party. They pledged to abide by the recommendation of the Special Committee regarding the choice of the candidate of the party.
Rt. Hon. Joe Edionwele who moderated the responses sections, told the party leaders that the best project the Governor can give to Edo Central is a Governor of Esan extraction. He noted that Governor Godwin Obaseki has done marvelously well in Edo State. He concluded that a Governor from Edo Central will transform the Senatorial District.
Other Committee members who spoke to the leaders included Hon. Mrs Maria Edeko, Prince Joe Okojie and Superior Evangelist Adekunle Oboh. They all harped on unity within the party.
