Edo 2024: Asue support group tasks INEC on free, fair and credible election
……Says APC will come out distance third behind LP
A support group under the aegis of Asue Kitchen Group, has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to provide a level playing ground for candidates of all political parties in the Edo State governorship election slated for September 21.
The group which is supporting the candidature of Dr. Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the call through its State Coordinator, Mr. Eugene Okoaguele, at the grand finale of the PDP governorship Campaign in Benin over the weekend.
It called on INEC to conduct free, fair and credible election in 2024.
The group noted that looking at the way the electoral body conducted the presidential election and the governorship elections in some states in 2023, it was clear sign that the electoral body needs to be up and doing to conduct the 2024 Edo gubernatorial election.
“We are more concerned with the ongoing body language of the electoral body and even the Nigeria Police who are supposed to protect Nigerian and be neutral but have turned themselves to be instrument of the APC to oppress and intimidate members of the PDP because of the fear of defeat.
“We want the electoral body to correct these problems ahead of the September 21 election to enable real people with permanent voters card exercise their rights without hitches or hindrance of any kind,” the group stated.
They also called on the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to be neutral and play by the rules. And give ample justification for why the agencies were created and not being partisan by supporting the APC who will come out a distance third in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
The group’s State Coordinator disclosed that, they held the meeting to strategies and get more support and vote for the governorship candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Asue Ighodalo and his running mate Osarodion Ogie.
“Nigeria and indeed Edo State is in need of a competent leader like Asue Ighodalo and we met today to look into the best way to reach the remaining people with permanent voters card on his behalf and our meeting was fruitful one of hope, especially in the light of Nigeria’s current level of poor governance.
“Edo needs the government of Continuity, a man that can continue with the good work of the outgoing administration led by Gov. Obaseki has started and the man is Dr. Asue Ighodalo and we want the people of Edo State to come out en-masse to cast and defend their votes come 21 September”.
