ECWAGG ADVOCATES FOR WOMEN INCLUSION IN GOVERNANCE WHILE THANKING LABOUR PARTY FOR NOMINATING THEIR OWN AS VICE CHAIRMANSHIP CANDIDATE IN ESAN CENTRAL
Women under the auspices of the Esan Central Women Arise for Good Governance (ECWAGG) on Monday call on their fellow women and the male gender to support women in politics.
The group made this call when they played host to the Vice Chairmanship candidate of the Labour Party in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
The group stated that for too long, women have been excluded, discriminated, marginalized and underrepresented in our government policies and programmes.
Common cultural stereotypes that challenge women’s role in politics, in addition to other barriers like lack of finance, religious beliefs, violence and weak internal party democracy, have held women back for several decades and the corollary is that men have continued to dominate the political arena as presidents, governors, law makers; and they also feature dominantly in appointive positions at the expense of women across all tiers of government.
“Since the creation of Esan Central Local Government Area, no woman has been elected as Chairman or made Vice Chairman of the local government. The time to change the narratives is now”, the group posited.
It is on this note that we present *Rosemary Akwese Omenai Labour Party Vice Chairmanship candidate Esan Central Local Government, to create history in Esan Central Local Government.*
Governance is not supposed to be gender bias. It should be by ability, capability, intellectual prowess, exposure and competence, the group said.
In her response, the Vice Chairmanship candidate Comrade Rosemary Akwese Omenai thanked the group for their support and love shown her and the labour party.
She promised that the confidence reposed in her, alongside the local government chairmanship candidate of labour party will never be taken for granted .
