The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State Branch, has appointed Dr. Georgina Eromosele as the Chairman of its newly inaugurated Medical Rescue and Disaster Management Committee. This appointment, conveyed by the State Executive Council (SEC), signals a renewed focus on strengthening emergency medical responses and disaster management frameworks in Edo State.
Dr. Eromosele, an accomplished medical practitioner with extensive leadership experience, will head an eight-member committee tasked with formulating policies and implementing strategies to address medical emergencies and disasters in the state. The committee, comprising senior medical professionals, includes Dr. Caroline Wemambu, Dr. Aghahowa Humphrey, Dr. Ngozi Onyeagwara, Dr. Tony Okpiavwe, Dr. Ferdinard Okolie, Dr. Emmanuel Okoeguale, Dr. Obasuyi, and Dr. Evelyn Okosun.
The committee’s mandate includes developing a comprehensive two-year action plan that outlines strategies for managing medical emergencies and disaster responses. Additionally, the team will identify social, economic, and environmental hazards that could lead to public health crises, while recommending preventive measures. The creation of medical rescue teams across health institutions and the training of healthcare professionals in disaster management are also key objectives.
Dr. Eromosele brings to this role a wealth of experience in healthcare leadership. She previously served as Manager of the Vivian Centre in Benin City, a facility dedicated to addressing gender-based violence and providing support for survivors of sexual assault. Her tenure as Head of the District Hospital, Ekiadolor, was marked by significant improvements in healthcare delivery for rural communities. As a staunch advocate for patients with sickle cell anemia, she has been instrumental in helping individuals access critical care through the Sickle Cell Centre in Edo State.
Her leadership credentials also include serving two terms each as Secretary and Vice President of the Association of Resident Doctors, Edo State Hospital Management Board chapter. These roles have cemented her reputation as a dedicated professional with a deep commitment to advancing public health.
The NMA Chairman, Dr. Eustace Oseghale, expressed confidence in Dr. Eromosele’s ability to lead the committee effectively, describing her appointment as a crucial step towards enhancing the state’s capacity to manage medical crises. “Her expertise and leadership qualities will undoubtedly strengthen our disaster preparedness and response systems,” he stated.
