The Director of Public Prosecution, Edo State filed charges of attempted kidnapping, conspiracy and assault occasioning harm against the Onojie of Ogwa HRH Victor Ehizogie II who is also the president of Area Customary Court Uromi, Hon Innocent Alegbe the vice chairman Esan West Local Government Area and 5 others; the case came up at High Court, Ubiaja Criminal Division on the 27th November 2024.
The Onogie of Ogwa also president of Area Customary Court Uromi and six others were billed to appear before the High Court Ubiaja Criminal Division in a case filed against them by the (DPP) Director of Public Prosecution.
While four of the defendants were in court for the arraignment, but three of the defendants the Onogie of Ogwa, HRH Victor Ehizogie II, the Vice Chairman, Esan West Local Government, Hon Innocent Alegbe, and one other person were not in court for the arraignment.
The state prosecuting counsel requested for a bench arrest warrant to be issued against the none appearance of the three defendants for the arrangement but the Judge, Hon Justice A. I. Osayande in her ruling requested that a new hearing notice be served on the defendants before further failure to appear would result in the issuance of a bench arrest warrant against HRH Victor Ehizogie II (the Onogie of Ogwa), Innocent Alegbe (the Vice Chairman Esan Eest local Government) and the other suspect . The judge, Hon. Justice A. I. Osayande adjourned the case to 22 January, 2025.
This case of alleged attempted kidnapping, conspiracy and assault occasioning harm was reported to the Police of Zone 5 Benin City and, after investigation they found a prima facie case against the Onogie of Ogwa, the Vice Chairman Esan West Local Government
ment Area and five others for the crime and forwarded the case file to the DPP for legal advice.
The DPP after due diligence, also reportedly found a prima facie case against them and filed an indictment or information against the suspects (Onogie of Ogwa (HRH Victor Ehizogie II), the Vice chairman Esan West Local Government (Hon Innocent Alegbe) and the five others) at High Court Ubiaja Criminal Division.
